As the clock ticks closer to the 2012 presidential elections, Sierra Leoneans from all works of life and different parts of the country have expressed optimum satisfaction with the human rights records of the APC government of President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma since it was elected in democratic elections in 2007 which were widely acclaimed as conforming to international best practices, a civil society activist working on human right issues across the county told We Yone over the weekend in a telephone interview.

Moving Maritime Administration A Step Further
About two years ago, I wrote an article on what was happening at the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration from the viewpoint of inadequacies in the administrative setup of the institution to corrupt practices that were taking place there then. There was lack of coordination, there was no proper governance and administrative mechanisms in place and as such the institution was not performing as was expected. In response to cries of the aged and other vulnerable groups of elders who lack source of income from any pension scheme, the APC government of President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma through the Social Safety Net Secretariat of Ministry of Labour and Social Security at New England Ville, Freetown, is on the verge to soon make payments of allowances to these persons as the verification process comes to an end, according to reliable source in the secretariat.
