Magneting Agenda for Change!“Numbers of SLPP MPs, Councillors Would Cross Over to APC in 2012”-Insider Reveals

E-mail Print PDF

An insider of the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) who sometime ago hinted to We Yone that as a result of the gains made in Agenda for Change by APC government country-wide, numbers of SLPP parliamentarians and elected councilors are finalizing arrangements to decamp from SLPP and cross over to APC ahead of 2012 elections, very recently also confirmed to We Yone the decision by these SLPP politicians is now irreversible.

“Most of SLPP MPs in Kono, Kambia, and Koinadugu are now resolute to join APC based on calls from their constituents who are now supportive of APC and President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma,” the insider revealed, adding these opposition politicians are now of no ‘relevance’ to their constituents as it is clear on the wall that come 2012 APC candidates would be elected.

“Hence, they want to outsmart them by joining APC so as to clinch APC symbols and contribute to nation building under the dynamic APC National Chairman and Leader Comrade Ernest Bai Koroma,” the insider noted, pointing out inspite of the level of psychological warfare SLPP hoodlums are championing in the south-east against APC stalwarts, there are number of SLPP MPs in Moyamba, Pujehun, and even Bo who will cross over to APC before 2012 elections. “As for Bonthe district, the PMDC would face a big shock in 2012 as the elected MPs and councilors have made it known in certain quarters to decamp from PMDC, snub SLPP and join APC for possible re-election,” the insider stated, equally pointing out these servants of the people are being encouraged by their people to cross over to APC.
“They are basing their justifications on the successes of APC in all the priorities of Agenda for Change,” the insider intimates, stating further the impact of free health care and rehabilitated access roads in most of these rural communities is the magic wand magneting all and sundry to the fold of APC.
According to the insider, these elected SLPP politicians are just waiting for the closure of Parliament next year before they would decamp.
“They do not want to miss their benefits in Parliament as the law stipulates MPs are elected on party tickets,” the insider states, while equally informing We Yone the threat from Bio’s thugs is being addressed.
The SLPP insider further disclosed because of the ground swell support of APC and President Koroma across Kenema and Kailahun- so-called SLPP strongholds, good number of influential SLPP MPs and Councillors have confirmed their decision to join the rank and file of APC.
“The greatest shock for SLPP would come from Kailahun as credible sources say these SLPP representatives are being cajoled by their electorate to desert SLPP and join APC,” the insider explains, adding the attracting factors are: ongoing reconstruction of Nixon Memorial hospital, reconstruction of Kenema-Pendembu road with plans for extention to Koindu; increased supply of farming inputs, etc.
“It is out of this apparent reality in the making which is responsible for SLPP behaving jittery and violent to intimidate these politicians in their fold,” the insider notes, concluding by stating that they would soon find solace as President Koroma is determined to ensure full scale security is visible through the length and breath of the country in pre, during and post 2012 elections period.
“The SLPP would pass into oblivion after they would have face a major political defeat in 2012 elections,” the insider maintained in finality.

…Back To Kailahun and The Irony of The Legendary Court ‘Barray’

Sierra Leoneans would recall the electoral malpractice that was perpetrated by then ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) in Kailahun Court ‘Barray’ during the 2007 Presidential run-off election which warranted the National Electoral Commission (NEC) to cancel the results in addition to other places where vote rigging was proved beyond all reasonable doubt.

With this in mind, when I was called upon by the organizers of a recent programme facilitated by the President Koroma APC-led government through Paramount Chief Al-Amin Kanneh of Baoma Koya chiefdom and Ahmed Sesay –Secretary General of ECOPOD to provide levels of assistance to surviving families of late victims killed in a gruesome road accident along the Kenema-Kailahun road, I was eager to accompany them so as to gauge the changing political dynamics. Brining Kono into Sierra Leone’s Political Center Stage

The 2007 Presidential and Parliamentary elections witnessed a dramatic twist in Sierra Leone political set-up with the removal from power of a ruling party by an opposition party. Berewa’s chances of winning those elections were slim, taking into account the manner in which he was catapulted into the SLP leadership in Makeni.

SALONE IS TOO SMALL FOR TRIBALISM

When issues of racism, nepotism or tribalism are unveiled in a public forum, it is a serious and grave cause for concern. The requirements of peaceful co-existence mandate that we should find strength in our diversity and that our communities must benefit from the variety of inputs and the myriad of backgrounds and socializations that imbues that diversity. However, a diverse and culturally self-assured organization does not happen by chance. It is the result of a willful effort by its membership to create a conducive environment so that their engagements at all levels combine to build that atmosphere of equality, openness and transparency. Such an open and fluid interaction amongst people of different backgrounds augurs well for the process of change and dynamism which makes for organically growing organizations.
