Report reaching We Yone as at press time last evening state SLPP thugs attacked an innocent citizen Aruna M. S. Conteh aka ‘Ambush Commander’ at the City Pavilion restaurant yesterday as he was having his meal.
Speaking to We Yone, Aruna M. S. Conteh aka ‘Ambush Commander’ confirmed he was attacked by irate youths suspected to be members of the opposition SLPP.
“I went to City Pavilion restaurant to have some food and while I was eating I observed people cram the restaurant in a riotous and violent manner,” he explained, noting that he gave no heed to them until two of them came to the table he was sitting and enquired whether he was the man called ‘Ambush Commander’.
“I replied in the affirmative,” he said, adding one of the two then turn around to the others who had by then filled the restaurant shouting “this is the ‘Ambush Commander’”.
“There and then the mob started raining insults on me accusing me of always being in support of President Koroma and the APC by sending text messages to almost every radio programme and even at times participating in phone-in programmes,” he said.
“They threatened to physically drag me out of the restaurant to teach me a lesson I will never forget”, he continued, stating he then stood up and challenged them to dare attack him.
“I then asked some people who I assume were the managers of the restaurant whether the City Pavilion restaurant was a SLPP restaurant or a public restaurant,” he said, pointing out the managers categorically made it clear the restaurant was not an extension of the SLPP office which is about fifty metres away.
He said the managers and other SLPP members who were in the restaurant then took upon themselves to prevail on the thugs to get out of the restaurant insisting they had no right to ambush and attack a customer within the restaurant.
A senior government functionary who was also in the restaurant told We Yone he is disappointed at the behavior of the SLPP thugs who he said had the intention to attack ‘Ambush Commander’.
“It seem as if these SLPP thugs want to intimidate members of the public from coming close to any public building that is within the vicinity of their office”, he said, referencing the incident that occurred on the day of the commissioning of the Freetown Clock Tower may have been the result of such show of arrogance by SLPP thugs.
