Accountant General Refutes Allegations, Determined To Make Government Accounts Public PDF Print E-mail

The Acting Accountant General Kebbe Kouroma has reacted strongly to allegations carried in an article of the We Yone published past Monday in which it was alleged that he is undermining the revenue collection effort of local councils by refusing to ensure that civil servants have their local tax deducted from source. He also said that government account is everybody's concern and that the public should pay attention to yearly audited reports.

"The office of the Accountant General is responsible to manage government's account and not to collect local tax", the Acting Director General explained, rebuffing insinuations in the said article titled "Accountant General Undermines Revenue Collection Drive", claiming that the office of the Accountant General should have collected local tax from civil servants from source on behalf of local councils.

President Koroma Fulfils His Promise to the People of Kono PDF Print E-mail

President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma posed a challenge to the people of Kono during his first visit to the district when he said that no other government can facilitate the rapid development of the district except the government of the All Peoples Congress of which he is the President and also Chairman and Leader of the Party.

His utterance is a manifestation of the avowed commitment and determination of the All Peoples Congress to take Sierra Leone to a brighter future as is encapsulated in the party's manifesto "Agenda for Change" which many Konos believe was localized when His Excellency President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma made that proclamation to a thunderous applaud and have now embraced themselves for the challenges ahead in fast tracking the development of a once neglected district under the past SLPP administration.

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Alimamy Koroma has undertaken a two-day trade assessment tour to the Kambia District.

At a meeting with the people of Kambia over the weekend at the Bamoi Luma Trade Fare and at the Gbalamuya Custom's House, several trade organizations deeply resented the high tariffs levied by the National Revenue Authority and the perpetual harassment by NRA officials.

The adage that water do not have ‘branch’ or even a straw to hold onto in the event of an accident has never been truer as was evident in the Fogbo Boat disaster which occurred past boxing day that occasioned the drowning of a good number of valuable lives. That incident is a wake-up call for authorities of the Republic of Sierra Leone Naval wing and the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration to be more pro-active and robust in effectively controlling the transportation along the seas and rivers in Sierra Leone.
