Some news reports in the international media are proving to be much more damaging to our country’s image than even certain aspects of the recent civil war. At least during the war years, there were genuine concerns for our citizenry as the nation declined into lawlessness and chaos. The wanton brutality including the amputation of limbs, rape, child soldiers and unnecessary loss of life that were consequences of a greedy battle for supremacy and control over the Country’s natural resources aroused international concern and sympathy.

For a very long time, a large number of sierra Leonean citizens residing in Asia whose political
ideologies are similar to those of the all peoples congress party have been unable to translate them into reality and as a result, the Asia continent has been lying politically dormant for the past decades without the existence of an APC branch capable of contributing to and supporting the political activities of the party back home. DESTROYING THE CHANGING IMAGE OF OUR COUNTRY AT “LEH WE TALK”?
In July this year, I whisked through Facebook to explore the activities of newly established groups by Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad. However, before this move, I was on a peaceful Sunday while chatting to colleagues taken aback when I noticed a very disturbing conversation that bothers the temporal shut down of our Bumbuna Hydro dam due to certain debt owed by few government agencies. The thread was from a group called “LEH WE TALK” (LWT) and the main post was carried by a Sierra Leonean living here in Australia. What sincerely provoked my concern was the acrimonious dramatization of the issue, describing the whole hydro project as wishy-washy, jubilantly arguing that it is down for good. Others argue that people should start using “KAMBOS” (fire emission from a fuelled bottle with wick) while this Sierra Leonean living in Australia preached to those in the diaspora not to even think of returning home because all is dead.

In response to cries of the aged and other vulnerable groups of elders who lack source of income from any pension scheme, the APC government of President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma through the Social Safety Net Secretariat of Ministry of Labour and Social Security at New England Ville, Freetown, is on the verge to soon make payments of allowances to these persons as the verification process comes to an end, according to reliable source in the secretariat.
The 2007 Presidential and Parliamentary elections witnessed a dramatic twist in Sierra Leone political set-up with the removal from power of a ruling party by an opposition party. Berewa’s chances of winning those elections were slim, taking into account the manner in which he was catapulted into the SLP leadership in Makeni.
