APC Moves to Ameliorate Hardship of the Vulnerable… As Social Safety Net To Soon Make Payments

In response to cries of the aged and other vulnerable groups of elders who lack source of income from any pension scheme, the APC government of President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma through the Social Safety Net Secretariat of Ministry of Labour and Social Security at New England Ville, Freetown, is on the verge to soon make payments of allowances to these persons as the verification process comes to an end, according to reliable source in the secretariat.

MFMR TRAINS FIELD OFFICERS

A two- day training workshop on Participatory Rapid Appraisal, Rapid Rural Appraisal and Formation of community organizations has ended in the Conference room of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Youyi Building in Freetown. Organised by the ministry of fisheries under the West African Regional Fisheries Programme, (WARFP) the main thrust of the programme was to develop the capacities of the ministry’s station officers and community organizers to enable them effectively collaborate with community stakeholders in establishing Community Management Organisations for the successful implementation of Marine Protected Areas, MPAS.

Fisheries Director Refutes Aljazeera’s Claims

The Acting Director of Fisheries and Marine Resources , Alpha Bangura has strongly reacted to a number of claims made by the Doha based International News Medium, Aljazeera, relating to the operations of his ministry. Responding to questions posed by a Reporter of that medium during an on line interview, M r. Bangura described the allegation that “Not a single South Korean trawler is transshipping its catch in Sierra Leone and that of Government is unable to verify the quantity of catch exported” as false and misleading, saying that in addition to others, the Joint Maritime Committee, JMC, constitutes a unique initiative of the Government of Sierra Leone in bringing together all relevant stakeholders in the Maritime domain with a view to curtailing illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and other nefarious activities in the country’s waters.

In Dispatching Drugs For Western Area … Health Minister Reiterates Interest on Pregnant Women

Dispatching truck loads of free health care drugs for beneficiaries in Western Area at medical stores over the past weekend, Minister of Health and Sanitation, Haja Zainab Hawa Bangura reiterated the interest and commitment of President Koroma APC-led government to curtail infant maternal mortality death rate in Sierra Leone   to meet with benchmarks of millennium development goals.
“With the free Health Care initiative all pregnant women, lactating mothers and children under five should access health facilities for free treatment and or delivery,” the Health Minister stated, adding this is in line with President Koroma’s Agenda for Change.

Yenga: A Forgotten Dream of the Opposition SLPP Made Real by the APC

The border town of Yenga in the far-flung eastern part of Kailahun district in the eastern region of Sierra Leone is beginning to breathe a sigh of relief as signs of its gradual re-integration to the ‘body’ of Sierra Leone are slowly becoming evident thus giving respite to residents that the long subjugation under the authority of Guineans has eclipsed following a recent proclamation by the APC government of President Koroma that an understanding has been reached to rightfully let Yenga continue an integral part of Sierra Leone’s sovereignty.

…Back To Kailahun and The Irony of The Legendary Court ‘Barray’

Sierra Leoneans would recall the electoral malpractice that was perpetrated by then ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) in Kailahun Court ‘Barray’ during the 2007 Presidential run-off election which warranted the National Electoral Commission (NEC) to cancel the results in addition to other places where vote rigging was proved beyond all reasonable doubt.

With this in mind, when I was called upon by the organizers of a recent programme facilitated by the President Koroma APC-led government through Paramount Chief Al-Amin Kanneh of Baoma Koya chiefdom and Ahmed Sesay –Secretary General of ECOPOD to provide levels of assistance to surviving families of late victims killed in a gruesome road accident along the Kenema-Kailahun road, I was eager to accompany them so as to gauge the changing political dynamics. SALONE IS TOO SMALL FOR TRIBALISM

When issues of racism, nepotism or tribalism are unveiled in a public forum, it is a serious and grave cause for concern. The requirements of peaceful co-existence mandate that we should find strength in our diversity and that our communities must benefit from the variety of inputs and the myriad of backgrounds and socializations that imbues that diversity. However, a diverse and culturally self-assured organization does not happen by chance. It is the result of a willful effort by its membership to create a conducive environment so that their engagements at all levels combine to build that atmosphere of equality, openness and transparency. Such an open and fluid interaction amongst people of different backgrounds augurs well for the process of change and dynamism which makes for organically growing organizations.

Damning UDM Leader’s Finger Pointing

We Yone was actually absent at the press briefing organized by the UDM at which the National Chairman Mohamed Bangura opined We Yone has started campaigning ahead of the 2012 elections in contravention of established statutes.

Nevertheless, reports of the press briefing in some local newspapers past Friday imply the UDM leader wrongfully castigated We Yone.
