Amadu Koroma, son of Ansumana U. Koroma (AUK), who was one of the flagbearer aspirants of the All Peoples Congress (APC) Party, in the run-up to the 2018 presidential election on Tuesday 25th January, 2022 donated football gears to the APC-Sports Club. Amadu, a retired footballer, whom now coaches hisown club in Europe,said he was elated to contribute to the young people of the party regardless the magnitude. Amadu Koroma expressed determination to use sport as a means to mobilize party young folks, heaping praises on the initiative for a sport club of the APC. In his introductory remarks, a member of the Sport Club said among other things that the main aim for forming the club is to bring young people of the party together and also to use the platform as a means of communication.
He said since the formation of the club they have been receiving support from various stakeholders of the party at home and abroad. In his statement, the father of the veteran international footballer, Comrade Ansumana U. Koroma, who is also the CEO of the Foundation, congratulated the league for their resilience, dedication, loyalty and unflinching support to the party and encouraged them to continue to remain committed and steadfast. “I strongly believe that these football items will continue to unite and energize you more and more as we approach 2023,” he noted, adding football can be used to unify a whole nation and it is my fervent belief that it will victory to the party come 2023. Before handing over the items to the President of the League, Amadu Koroma congratulated the youth wing of the party for holding the fort, adding “my coming here is to present the items and to join my father in his campaign.”
“I am enjoying the unity, love and oneness that prevailing among you,” he maintained, while recalling years back when he attended one of the meetings of the young people. He said his coming to Sierra Leone is to see how best he could give back to his country and his party. He further admonished “only unity will bring the country together’’.In his response, the President of the League, Comrade Bai Mahmoud Bangura thanked the donor and the foundation for the gesture and for the love they have for the party and the sport club. “The League does not support an individual. We are always neutral. We always wait for the collective decision of the party,” the indomitable president pointed out, while encouraging other party stalwarts to emulate the fine example of the donor. Present at the ceremony were the Secretary General of the League Comrade Alie Conteh, chairlady comrade Hannah Kargbo, members of the sport club among others.
