Acting Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Peoples Congress has rejected claims of the SLPP-led administration, including few media practitioners ascribing President Julius Maada Bio as Champion of Press Freedom.
Mohamed Pope Kamara said even though the government agreed to repeal part five of the Public Order Act, there is proven evidence to show that the country is under state capture where the media are only reporting what suits the power that is.
He recalled a good number of journalists have been harassed for doing their job while harsh economic conditions are putting several media houses out of business.
Kamara is of the view that the current SLP are averse to criticism and had proven time and again that they will prepare to ignore dissenting voices. This, he concluded, is not the spirit of democracy.
