2022: SLPP’s Year of Pessimistic Gloom and Doom!

Spread the love

By Septimus A.M. Saffa

The spectacle presented by the SLPP recently-concluded National Delegates Convention in the Southern City of Bo District wherein President Bio and likes were ecstatic in their so-called commitment and illusionary thinking that, come 2023, the SLPP and Bio will defeat APC in the general elections can be likened to the scene in the Titanic Ship of centuries ago wherein good number of the aristocrats were agog in celebration, jubilation and ululation, forgetting that the Titanic has hit an iceberg and was slowly but surely sinking. That historic disaster remains to date as one of the worst Sea disasters that has hit mankind. According to records, thousand of souls were lost encompassing the crème-de la crème of the gentry in Western Europe and the United States of America.

Coming to Sierra Leone, Eagle’s eye has remain privy to the fact that since the emergence of the President Julius Maada Bio SLPP-led government in 2018, it has been close to four years now of massive plundering of state resources as evident in 2020 Auditor General’s report evincing the putrefying stench of graft permeating the Bio regime; unprecedented scale of human rights violations; political harassment, intimidation, arrests and incarceration of key opposition voices; biting economic hard times as a result of increase in prices of basic foodstuffs, low employment and closure of many businesses due to SLPP killing tax regime; creation and execution of state of police heavy handedness, rods of dictatorship and undemocratic inclinations and actions.

Therefore, as the philosophy, goes, ‘’time flies and draws us with it,’’ 2021 has ended, but on a climax with retrogressive and unenviable note. Eagle’s eye will further like to quote the Late Black American Literary Giant, Novelist James Baldwin.

He writes: ‘’writing is a political instrument’’

Therefore, on this core, Eagle’s eye will continue to use this column in writing incisive articles as well as critical notes on the failures, excesses and political inhumanity and arrogance of the Bio government. The point is, by behaving with callous disregard for the feelings, sensibilities and cries of majority of compatriots as if all is fine and good is a solid example of bad governance and insensitivity. Both Bio and Prince Harding were heard making disparaging statements against the erstwhile APC government, with Bio stating that he has the knack to beat APC in the polls. What an irrational and ironical statement as Bio’s so-called election victory in 2018 is now crystal clear to all and sundry that it was the handiwork of regime changers. It was a stolen victory!

Displaying such stupendous stupidity, the SLPP is pretending to be ignorant of the fact that this Bio regime has not been able to take Sierra Leone to any level inspite of the gains made by the former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma APC-led government in putting basic structures in place for accelerated development; that this government by the time the SLPP held its convention during the tail end of December, 2021-to be precise 29th and 30th December, 2021, the marks of failure of the government were and still emblematic in the land; still cinematic in the land; still tormenting the visions, dreams and aspirations of Sierra Leoneans that Sierra Leone is now a failed and Pariah state. Eagle’s eye considers that spectacle of SLPP’s convention with Bio and caboodle behaving in a state of utopia, illusion and day-dreaming, pretending to be oblivious of the reality that the junta regime, like the Titanic of old, has hit an iceberg, and slowly but surely drowning!

In light of the above, as we have ushered into 2022, it is blatantly clear that the Bio regime will not be able to reverse the ugly train of affairs and events in the national plane of the nation. 2022 can be described as SLPP’s year of pessimistic gloom and doom. The only saving grace, Eagle’s eye would encourage citizens at home and abroad to remain steadfast, as come 2023, APC will bounce back to power and positively change the ugly narratives.

Happy new year to well-meaning Sierra Leoneans!
